How to Source Experts In Any Field | The Recruiters Lounge

Okay, although I titled this post ?How to source experts in any field,? I have to step back and say that the word ?expert? is purely subjective in this case. What is my determining criteria? If someone can write a book on a subject, then that makes them expert. For argument?s sake, let?s just say that?s all you need to qualify. Sure, one could say, what if the book is all wrong? Or, what if the book is incredibly thin? Or? yadda, yadda, yadda, blah, blah, blah? we can banter that later, for now tune into my logic.

If someone can write a book on a given topic, it stands to reason that they know something about what they are writing about. It is up to the Hiring Manager to decided if they want to hire the person. Make sense? So you as the Recruiter and/or Sourcer must generate the lead that begins a desired chain of events. I feel like I am rambling (I do that sometimes) so let me get to it.

Are you familiar with the concept ? print on demand? Here is a description from wikipedia: ?Print on demand (POD), sometimes called publish on demand, is a printing technology and business process in which new copies of a book (or other document) are not printed until an order has been received.?

There are a LOT of people who write books and even more people who write books that are never accepted by publishers (for diverse reasons). One alternative to printed immortality is to become a Print on Demand Author. This is GREAT news for Recruiters because each Print on Demand publisher represents several leads in diverse categories. Case in point?

Xlibris is a print on demand publisher. Here is a quote from their website, letting you know what they are all about.

Xlibris is a book publishing company created by authors, for authors. By focusing on the needs of creative writers and artists, and on how print on demand technology and new approaches can be applied in the publishing industry, we provide authors publishing services to help them get published.

Whether you are writing a book, promoting your work, or searching for online publishing services or a self publisher to publish your book, Xlibris? comprehensive range of publishing, editorial, add-on and marketing services enable you to customize your self-publishing experience. Our professional team of publishing professionals are available every step of the way to guide you through the self-publishing process.

Now let me show you why Print on Demand is cool:

A. Go to the homepage of Xlibris.

B. Click on the Bookstore link (1) and once there, add your search terms in the Xlibris Book Search (2) box. For our purposes, I searched on Medical Pathologist.

C. I click on one of the results ? ?Life Story of a Foreign Medical Pathologist.?

D. The Book Information page lists information about the book (duh!), the Author?s biography (aka the Author?s resume) and a link for contacting the author.

E. Clicking the ?Contact Author? link brings you to a form where you can send in your request to send them your job opportunities. Umm? so to speak.

If you like this approach, click here for a list of Print on Demand publishers and find more ?experts? in their field.

Happy Hunting!
