Ross Brawn thinks Mercedes will extract benefits of new exhaust in next few races ? Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that they will soon be able to extract the benefits of their new exhaust system which they introduced in the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix.
The Brackley based team tested their new exhaust layout in the Young Driver Test held at Magny-Cours in France. Later on, they came up with the novel exhaust in the night race at Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore.
Even though, their driver, Nico Rosberg struggled during the free practice and the qualifying. Nevertheless, he performed quite convincingly in the race and managed to secure 5th pace finish after setting off from 10th grid position.
Contrarily, Rosberg?s teammate, Michael Schumacher retired during the race as apparently his brakes failed and he smashed his car into the back of Toro Rosso driver, Jean-Eric Vergne.
Furthermore, Brawn has said that they have learned a lot from their experience in the preceding race where they have used their new exhaust design for the first time. Although, he said that they could not take out the most of it in the last race, nonetheless, they are hoping to gain considerable benefits from it in the forthcoming races.
Over and above, he said that he is extremely delighted with the performance of his team in the season until now while he said that they are confidently looking forward to achieve better results in the remaining season.
?It's quite difficult. In Young Driver Test we were able to do a clean back-to-back which was quite helpful,? said Brawn. ?Here in Singapore is our first time using them in anger and it took a little time to sort them out. We were not in the best of shape but the guys did a good job to change set-up and use strengths of the upgrade. We do know from observing other people who have made transition to a Coanda exhaust that it takes a few races to understand it and get everything working. But it looks pretty positive, so we're reasonably happy.?
It will be interesting to see how the Silver Arrows perform in the Japanese GP.
