Extended Family is a personal story about the links between adoptive and birth families in the US and Guatemala. It explores whether adoptive families should search for their young children?s birth families?and what happens when they do.

What does life hold for kids who grow up behind bars? Filmmaker Heather Dew Oaksen received a 4Culture Individual Artist Project award in support of Minor Differences, a feature documentary, produced by Caroline Cumming. The film follows five former juvenile offenders for nearly two decades providing an intimate view of their journeys to maturity. Eighteen years ago, Oaksen taught a video skills class at a maximum security prison for juveniles. There she got to know the men you will meet in Minor Differences. In unforgettable, follow-up interviews, the men grow in ways no one could have foreseen. The film?s leads, Andres, Casey, Joe and Matt, now men in their 30?s, will be at the premiere, to take your questions.
The evening will also offer Proliferation, an animated mapping of the US Prison system set to original music by artist Paul Rucker and a dance performance by Kagaka Lua Entertainment, dedicated to promoting Pacific Islander Heritage through cultural dance, music and workshops.

Paul Mullin: Philosophical Zombie Killers

Playwright Paul Mullin received a 4Culture Individual Artist Project award in support of the development of his new play, Philosophical Zombie Killers. Mullin will present a first reading, in collaboration with Sandbox Artists Collective, at The Bathhouse Theater at Green Lake. This reading will feature the prodigious acting talents of Susanna Burney, William Salyers, John Q. Smith, with narration by Amy Love. Philosophical Zombie Killers is his attempt at theatrically exploring recent scientific and philosophical investigations of human consciousness. Feedback from this reading will be incorporated into future drafts and a fully staged workshop production some time in 2013.

Iron Horses features images of trains owned by the Northwest Railway Museum in Snoqualmie, where you can visit a Victorian depot, learn how the railway changed the history of Washington State, see the excitement of a working railroad. This exhibition runs through 2012.
