Celebrating YOUth Sports Festival inviting Kids to get Actively Involved

The City of Santa Clarita is inviting community members to attend the fourth annual Celebrating YOUth Sports Festival on Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, located at 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway. The free event will feature games for sports enthusiasts, food, raffle prizes and activities presented by local professional and semi-professional sports teams.

?The City of Santa Clarita is committed to inspiring the community to embrace a healthy, active lifestyle and encouraging youth to get plenty of exercise,? says Mayor Frank Ferry. ?The YOUth Sports Festival is a great, family-friendly event that celebrates all local youth sports participants, their achievements, and those interested in participating in youth sports.?

The YOUth Sports Festival will feature familiar outdoor sports, including: tennis, golf, football, hockey, baseball and volleyball.? In addition to these recreational activities, water sports will be offered, including: stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking and fun water games like ?dunk the lifeguard.? Martial art demonstrations along with live performances from local gymnasts, cheerleaders and dance teams will also take place throughout the day.

The Santa Clarita Skate Park will be open to skate enthusiasts to watch professional and amateur athletes attempting extreme tricks. Many regional sports teams have also signed up to join in on the fun and support the YOUth Sports Festival, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Lancaster JetHawks, LA Galaxy, and the 2012 Stanley Cup Champions the Los Angeles Kings.

The Festival will offer a variety of food for purchase and a raffle, giving participants a chance to win prizes including amusement park tickets, restaurant gift cards and professional sports memorabilia.? All the proceeds from the raffle will benefit the City?s Supporting Children?s Opportunities in Recreation Events program, which provides assistance with recreation scholarships for underprivileged youth.
