Video: Houston?s death impacts iTunes sales

>>> within hours of her death whitney houston has had dozens of her most celebrated songs on the itunes best seller list. right now "i will always love you" that the number one spot in three countries. she joins the ranks of deceased artists like michael jackson and amy winehouse who saw boosts in the sales after their death. chaka khan talked about industry pressure.

>> i had a manager that said to me, you're worth more money dead than alive. okay. i'm just, by the grace of god , standing here. i could have easily, easily because of a lot of pressure from the label i was with at the time.

>> julia covers the media and entertainment for cnbc. i know i saw your tweet talking about some of the sales with whitney houston 's music. we don't know her financial situation. there's been some reports she was in dire straits but now she could be worth, and i hate to say it, dead than she was alive moneywise.

>> certainly there is what we call and it sounds grim but they call it a death bounce. we saw it with amy winehouse . her 2006 album shot to the to of the charts. i think we are seeing that again with whitney houston . we don't know her financial situation when she passed away . we know she will see a massive boost in sales from her albums. one thing that's interesting is she did not write the song. like michael jackson did. she won't benefit as much as the michael jackson estate did after he died. in the 12 months after michael jackson passed away , his estate brought in $279 million. that's a huge amount of money considering he was no longer produzing new music. i think with her the number will be in the tens of millions of dollars. we could see $10 million come into her estate from the sale of music from the months following her death.

>> we reported yesterday in the increase of price that sony increased the price of her most popular music . forbes has the to five earners and they include three people who passed away , michael jackson , elvis presley and marlin monroe. charles schultz was on the list and john lennon made $12 million.

>> i think the reason why michael jackson earned so much is because he wrote those songs, he wasn't just performing them. he also earned the publishing rights . i think she will be reinintroduced to fans. i think a whole new generation of younger fans is learning about her now. she's costarring with the star of " american idol ," jordin sparks .

>> she was coexecutive producer of that movie. it was a labor of love. some of her money had to be in that if she's part of producing it.

>> it's unclear if she put in money or just working on it. that's the kind of a movie that would have a great sound track and see a lot of sales.

>> all right. thank you so much. greatly appreciate you joining me. thanks.
