Bomb targeting candidate kills 5 in Pakistan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) ? Police say a bomb targeting a candidate from an Islamist party in northwest Pakistan has killed five people and wounded over 30.

The attack Tuesday in Hangu town was the second in as many days targeting members of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party in the northwest.

Police officer Fazal Naeem Khan says candidate Mufti Syed Janan was campaigning in a market in Hangu when the bomb went off.

It was not immediately clear whether Janan was wounded.

A bombing at a rally held by the party on Monday in the Kurram tribal region killed 25 people. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the latest bombing.
